Gentlemen, my daughter is still sick so I’ve done my best to deliver this lesson to you virtually. Most of you still need to work on the quadratic formula. (Valentin – you may take your test now and use factoring. It is a longer and a higher level than the others). I want you to know how to use it well before we move on to factoring. Below I have a short video tutorial – it’s a bit dry, but I was working quickly. Once you have watched the movie, click on the link below it to see the quadratic formula used to solve an equation that has two solutions. Below that is an explanation of how to do exponents on that quiz. When you have gone through all the tutorials, go to the that quiz page and take the two new tests.
Gentlemen, as you can see, I am not here this morning. You do have several things to accomplish and need to follow directions closely to get them done. Complete step 1, then return to this to complete the following steps.
1. Complete the two sided equations quiz by clicking on this link. Your passwords are the same as your google docs passwords. Please get these from Mr. Butler if you do not have them. He has the passwords in his google docs account.
2. As I mentioned last week, JoMar came up with a good idea (strange as it may seem). He suggested that you create your own class to teach online – similar to what Valentin has been doing already. To this end, I have created an Algebra class on edu 2.0 and invited you all to join me as co-teachers. Read parts 3-5 then go to this link.
3. Find the “log-in” button and login at the top of the page and click it. Your username is your google docs username (i.e. – jmsmmansour2004) and your password is the same as before.
4. Once you are logged in read your email from Graham and the one from me. Please accept my invitation to become a co-teacher.
5. Once you have accepted my invitation to become a co-teacher, go to the tab labeled “Teach” and click on Algebra 1. From there, click on forums and answer the question I posted in the forum.
6. Once you have completed all these steps, you may look around the site a little and post another forum question or add to the wiki (under collaboration)
Enjoy yourselves and make sure you stay focused and complete all the tasks. If you have trouble, ask Valentin or Mr. Butler for help.
DaVaun, Keenan, Taj, Justin, and Valentin – read closely. I am at a conference today. Though I meant to teach you via sketchcast today, I left the power cord to the laptop at school and the battery died, so I can’t use the sketchpad to do your lesson. You will, however, have a review quiz today. This is the second of your two tasks that will be graded. Here are the tasks in order:
1. Login to this blog (click login a little ways down the page on the right or click on this link) and write a comment answering the question.
What is the most challenging thing for me in math right now? (this is graded – if you can’t figure out how to log in or forgot you password, write it down)
